Cosmedics Director Comments on Cosmetic Surgery Trends
London (PRWEB UK) 13 February 2014
The cosmetic surgery industry is in the best health for years, as the annual survey carried out by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) shows a 17% increase in the number of ops performed between 2012 and 2013 by their UK members.
Procedures intended to make patients look younger enjoyed double digit growth with face and neck lifts up 13%, eyelid surgery up 14% and brow lifts up 17% year on year, showing that Brits are increasingly keen to invest in improving their appearance and turning back the clock on the signs of advancing years.
However, Harley Street’s Dr Ross Perry, Medical Director of Cosmedics Skin Clinics based in London and Bristol, has urged patients not to rush into surgery when there are so many highly effective non-surgical skin treatment options available that can achieve more natural-looking results with lower risk and at a much cheaper cost too.
“Cosmetic surgery should be seen as a last resort for patients who are keen to turn back the years, as modern aesthetic medicine offers a plethora of procedures designed to help patients look younger and fresher.
“The most popular and best known options are injectable products such as wrinkle relaxing injections using Botox, which work to relax the fine dynamic facial muscles so that the skin appears smoother and less lined; plus facial fillers which are used to add volume, gently plumping out deeper lines and creases for a firmer skin texture.
“However, there are many other options beyond these. Laser skin tightening offers extraordinary potential, working to stimulate the skin’s own collagen production and recovery processes. It can also treat ageing pigmentation and facial veins.
“Similarly, Dermaroller micro-needling or chemical peels are also very powerful in stimulating the skin’s healing processes for firmer, tighter skin with a more radiant complexion.
“Our doctors all hold detailed consultations with their patients prior to treatment, which are offered free of charge in order to establish the most appropriate treatment in a completely informal and unpressured environment. They are skilled at recognising the most appropriate treatment or combination of approaches for each individual client in order to achieve their goals and aspirations.
“Any surgery involves a certain number of known risks, which include infection and complications resulting from the general anaesthetic. Facial rejuvenation surgery involves the removal of excess skin for a smoother appearance, but this is irreversible and can lead to quite a stretched look if not done with skill and precision. It also involves stringent recovery and aftercare with time off work in most cases as well as bruising, bandages and the risk of scarring.
“Where there is a significant amount of loose skin, for example after rapid weight loss or excessive sun exposure; surgery may still be the best option and our doctors can recommend and refer patients if that is the case. However, in my experience surgery should never be the consideration when so much can be accomplished with non-invasive techniques.â€
