It feels like too many carbs because you’re getting most of your calories from carbs. You should be getting 5-10 servings of fruit or vegetables per day, 2-3 servings of dairy, and 5oz of meat or meat alternatives as well as some fats.

Add a big salad to lunch with some nuts or olive oil dressing, more meat (or meat alternatives like tofu) to dinner, and more veggies to dinner. I’d suggest cutting back to one piece of toast at dinner.

You’re not eating enough calories, and with most of them coming from carbs you’re going to have a hard time sticking to this plan. Carbs just end up making you more hungry just a few hours later. Get more of your calories from protein and fat and you’ll be able to stick to a 1200 calorie diet so much easier than 1200 calories from carbs. If you go below 1200 calories you’ll actually be slowing down your metabolism not just while you’re starving yourself, but for months afterwards making weight loss harder and weight gain – especially if you return to your old habits – much easier.
